Secrets from Louisiana

So glad you have stopped by for a visit. We have many secrets here in Louisiana. We are a quilters haven because of all the interesting things we have in our environment to see, smell, taste and feel. Our flowers are like perfume in the evening and the colors explode in your eyes. Our seafood is the best in the world and is bountiful from the Gulf.

The palette is non stopping.

My only nemis is those little chairs, hard on the knees. Sweet littke kids and one great teacher and one soso who doesn;t appreciate my experience. Oh well Jean can deal with her in December. I will be back in January for 3 weeks.

All is well in the family, Hank came home for  quick visit from LSU. Will be back for WEd. Nicolas and Naomi will not be coming down for Thanksgiving but we will have them for Christmas. WhooHoo!!!!!!!!!

Everybody Lived

my first day at work went pretty good. Everybody got where they needed to go and everybody got on the right bus home. whoohoo Tomorrow I will be in Sp. Education instead of K. I don't like that age as much as the older kids. Had to get my feet wet and I did. Education has changed since I left, I still love Teaching and will continue.

Going to soak in the tub.

hugs Patticake

First Workday

Up early and ready to goooooooo! Who would have guessed I would ever go back to work even part time. Who would have guessed what it cost to fill the RV, groceries, medicines etc. I am glad I have a market skills. The bottom line is I ran out of stuff to do!

I will only work 3 days a week so that leaves lots of time to quilt and no jobs when we have a rally and no work all summer. I think I got this workrd out. Everyone in the family supports my decision.
I am ready, will let you know tomorrow how it works out.

Wonderful Weekend

The weather has been beautiful and we have gotten a lot done for our trip to Georgia next weekend. I have one more quilt to bind before we leave. I packed my clothes today and so did Steve. We will move them to the coach tonight along with some other items. We are expecting Barbara and Mike on Tuesday . They will plug their bus in in front of ours till Friday so we will be going a lot with them visiting. I have made my menues and have gathered my item for the frig and pantry. I don't know how many days I will work this week so preparing ahead is important.

Mike's children were here this weekend, saw them for a little while, they are getting so tall and big. Little Hank is toooooooooo busy at LSU to spare a visit, so I guess Thanksgiving will be the first time to see him since August, I miss him really a lot! My doctor to be grand knows what good grades are.

I have several tie purses laying on the sewing table. I will try to finish them brfore I leave, I need one for my cell phone.

have a great week!

Great News

I bet you have never dreamed I would be writing this news, I am going back to the classroom in the sub pool. I have been off 10 years and have done most things on my bucket list. Teaching again is one of the items on my list not completed. So I applied and the laws have changed so I can only teach 120 days a year so I got my degrees evaluated and I can teach anything at any grade level. I am going to probably work 3 days a week when Steve and I don't have anything special to do. The salary will go into the Maine fund for fuel next summer. I read the law and found out what was new because at first they told me I couldn't work, so I went into action getting the facts together, then finger printing, and applying to the state dept of education for approval. All done and watching the jobulator to ring it's bell for choices for Monday.

We have been teasing Steve about having to fix his meals himself. The wady who makes the sammies will not be here! I even bought some new clothes for the classroom. I am 70 years young so let the good times roll. My house is in order so this should be okay.

I have 2 quilts to do for Christmas, but can work on those in November, we have 2 Saints games in November and Thanksgiving so not so much.

Will keep you guys posted.

A Little Extra Time

I don;t know how I ever worked and ran the household, maybe I am just slower, who knows???? I don't ever get it all done. I have now picked days for certain things to get done. Who knew I would have to have a schedule at age 70.

I just finished planning our meals for the rest of the week.  A Menu  is important since we don't eat fast food. We mainly eat from farm to table which takes a lot more prep time but is so  good for the body and mind. The kitchen is clean and all is tucked away waiting  for breakfast.

I will quilt in a little while watching TV. I read for an hour in the late afternoon while the cornbread was baking to go along with the cabbage, potatoes, carrots and corned beef. A great fall meal!

Steve has been working for big Hank everyday with Michael. Nice having the boys working together.  I see hank and Michael everyday really nice.

My quilts are ready for the quilt sale in Georgia in October, just need to decied on my demo for the ladies. John's quilt is almost finished, doing the binding tonight.

We have a lot to do in the next 3 months.

Hurricane Watch

This storm is on our doorstep. We should feel it by late this evening, all day tomorrow, and maybe thursday also. I am worn out getting ready as is my entire family. Thank goodness for Mike my youngest, he boarded the entire house last night. Laundry is done, house clean, freezer is done (food in big plastic bags on shelf)frig cleaned out and food cooked. Important papers in backpack and most electronics packed.  Money gotten from bank and all cars and trucks filled with fuel. Grills cleaned and loaded with cook fuel. All lawn furniture put away and flower pots low on the ground. All fruit was picked from fruit trees. The best is Little 19 year old Hank came in from LSU last night and came and visited his mmp (mawmawpat) His Daddy is happy to have him home from LSU in Baton Rough even if it is only for 2 or 3 days. Dixie had a bath yesterday also.

Am I tried, you bet your sweet butt I am! Slept 7 hours without waking up, these storms are really tiring.
Hope all goes well.

Stuck IN Lake Charles Louisiana

Good morning, we are still trying to get home. We are plugged in at Martin's Truck/Rv Repairs. WEW were towed here yesterday after 2 nights in the La. Welcome Center. They sent a gaint tow truck to pick us up. The hose on top of the trans let go with a hole in it and bathed our tow truck with fluid. WE are plugged in and have all the comforts of home, but would like to be home soon.

I of course brought my quilting and a great book so we are good and the freezer has food and the frig is stocked, just need milk, will get that today.

Will keep you posted.

Heavy Heart

I come to the blog today with a heavy heart. Cousin Bonnie's husband Donald passed away after a long fight with cancer. He had a stroke on Saturday and never came out of it. He died peacfully with his family around him. I will be going to St Bernard tomorrow to visit with my favorite cousin and spend the day remembering all the interesting things Donald did in life.

I have been quilting and watching the olympics since they started and am pulling for Lola who races tomorrow.

I will catch up later this week.

London on Speed

I am a junkie for the London Games, love it all. I have the sewing machine set up so I can sew and watch. Cleaned the house really good last week so that is not a problem. Cooked ahead of time, no problem there. My only problem is I have pieced  7 quilt tops and have layered them so now I have to quilt, ran out of pins. What a problem.

Steve is having a tooth taken out today so Patticake the nurse will take over. I will put him on the sofa near the Tv, this girl is thinking ahead. Thank goodness I don't have a job, as I would have to have a 17 day vacation.

I am going to cut an autumn quilt today and a halloween quilt this afternoon, I am getting ready for the quilt sale in October in Georgia. That is my fuel money sale for the bus travel.

We have 4 birthdays this week. little 6 foot Hank 19, big Hank 41, little Nicolas 9 and my friend Jean 68. My birthday is next on Labor day Septemeber 3rd, 70 big ones and still kicking !

Spent some time with Bonnie and Donald, little Donald, Tracy, Jamie and Maria. Big Donald is in no pain thank God the drugs are doing their job. He is still eating lightly so has not wasted away. The big C is everywhere so it is a waiting game at this point. Bonnie is extremely worn out but is still trying to take care of everybody. I offered my services as I am a great care giver, have had lots of practice. Mom, Dad, Grandmother, Aunt etc.
I will keep in close contact and thanks for all the prayers.

I am off to quilt today with my group in Wilma. have a new Christmas quilt to put together, trees, cut, free pattern on the internet.

Steve is off interveiwing for a new job. He is happy when he is busy. Go figure.

Steve is Back!

Steve's part time job has decreased down to one day a week, nice to have him around again. Going to WW in a few and then to have the echogram and ultrasound at the heart doctoc, just to make sure all is okay.

Sewed this morning and now have 5 tops ready to layer, I am on a ROLL!!!! Haven't made a dent in the stash, what was I thinking, living to 105 I guess. We will see.

Have a few things to do in town and then back to sewing and maybe work on the office, need to get rid of stuff I will never use. I have a laptop that they no longer make virus control for, it still works, has mic.98 second addition program, old phones, cameras etc, got the picture.

Gotta Go!

Mixed News Today

I hate days like this ,got up great , had breakfast and called my special cousin Bonnie in St Bernard. Her husband Big Donald has been fighting the Big C for years. Well now their isn't any more treatment available for him as his numbers have skyrocketed. His time with his family is short. The assistance nurses and social workers have already made contact and are waiting in the wings. I am truely sad.

Went to have my teeth cleaned this afternoon and looked at Steve's exrays, not good. Will speak about this at a later time. Paid the $1000 bill and went to see my brother who is having some transportation issues with one tire. Steve and Mike are up there putting air in it.

Little Hank had 4 wisdom teeth removed today so now he has no wisdom. The bleeding has stopped so now he can sleep the drugs away till tomorrow morning.

I did get 3 quilts ready for batting and pinning, moving right along. Just to sad to quilt tonight. Keep Bonnie, Jacque and Armond in your prayers.

Wonderful Day

Good morning sweet sistra's and brothers! It is raining, what a surprise, it is afterall Louisiana. We say just wait 30 minutes and see what kind  of weather we will have. Such as life in this state, but thank goodness no hurricanes at present.

Steve and I spent the entire day together, really nice and ended it with a great dinner at the best seafood place in the swamp! Oysters and thin fried catfish, what could be better. We stayed up late and watched 2 movies, the last one was Fast Five and it was great.

Of course I quilted while I watched the movies and was thing about some tops that need to be layered and quilted. Today I am putting can goods on board the Rv part of my hurricane prepareness.

A Great Week

Well the grands are with their Daddy for the weekend and Steve and I can now get back to normal(What ever that is?). I vacumned and steam mopped this morning and packed up all the toys and put them behind the BIG chair till next time. We went to the show yesterday to see Ice Age the Continental Divide, what a great movie, Wanda Scikes as the grandmother was fab.

I did manage to quilt some when they watched the cartoon channel. I did a lot of observations over the pass week and I think the new research is on target, our children and young adults are completely visual in nature. Their auditory skills have not developed as our did because everything in their worlds are visual. Think about it! That is why their would rather text then talk in person. The younger kids have lights, sound with movement(games) and a lite up environment.

Ok enough!

Quilting will be heavy from now till October, will be getting ready for Rats Rally. Going to be in the cottage to see what projects I can finish in a hurry.

Downloaded a app for KIndle so mt Thrive can have lots of free books. It was on Amazon and Google. Soooooooooo easy

PS I would rather talk than text, did you know that about me???????hahaha

Getting On Track

I use to have time everyday to do this post, what happened? Life is full and demanding so I am going to slow it down a bit. I have the little ones thsd entire week so I can't make any changes just let but come Sunday "HOLD THE BARN DOORS" Don't have a barn but like the expression. Steve is still working part time and has suggested that I go back to work to make money for some BIG trips, Alaska and Maine for several months each. I really think he has lost his marbles. NOT HAPPENING!

It has started to rain finally, these showers really cool us off some, without them he is 95-100 or more degrees, not nice. No hurricans in the gulf so far that would effect us , thank goodness. Sunday I am packing the bus with hurricane supplies so we will be ready to leave if necessary. You know Patticake always ready.

Quilting news, I have almost finished the Pineapple  throw, will put boarders on it probably this afternoon if it rains. Will be making a doll quilt for Naomi tomorrow and will be picking out Saints fabric for Nicolas's new bedroom. I will be picking out Halloween fabric for myself next week in the cottage. Have you noticed the price of everything??? Thank goodness for stashes.  I love my cottage, way forward thinking on my part.

Health news , my eye lazer procedure went fine back to 20/20 vision. Teeth are fine, sugar numbers are normal, all test were good. Only 2 more heart checks next week that I asked for just to be sure all is good, then I am finished for a year. A colon check in 5 years. I am a happy girl.

Wish you all a great week and a happy life.

This is my 70th birthday gift to myself. The colon screen yesterday was easy and so was the prep over the weekend, I will add it was all clear. No more diabetic meds for this girl, AIC is 5,9, good chol was 62 and bad chol was 77, EKG's (3) normal, pap good, bone scan fine, we are doing the extra heart testing because a history on me and my family has illregular heart beats sometimes .Am having scar tissue removed from left eye next tuesday and then will be done for a year,

A Gift To Me

I have been very busy, most of you know I will be celerbrating my 70th birthday in September so I have given myself the gift of medical exploration. By this I mean I am having everything I own looked at to make sure all is good for another 30 years. I never get  sick and am a  ball of energy since losing 50 plus pounds. I even work in the yard, what a surprise! I am off my diabetic medication, whohoo!!!! I feel like I have a new lease on life. I did a 5k last Saturday, walking not running and still go to WW every week I am in town.

Steve is doing great, loves being back at work about 35 hours a week and having pocket money. We have started thinning out the fence rows after 45 years of growth. WE did 90 feet and will need help for the next 125 feet. Once the temp hit the 90's we were done. I have been racking early in the morning, great chance to use those lazy muscles.

Quilting of yes quilting I have cut, pieced, layered, quilted 8 quilts since the end of march, not bad for a stepter. I have also read a book a week for the last 8 weeks, yes I sleep 7 hours a night, cook every day. Steve and I share 3 meals a day.

Hank and Mike are doing fine, little Hank is home for the summer from LSU and Nicolas and Naomi will spend a week with me in June after the Rally we will attend on June the 7th.

All is good in Louisiana!

On Vacation Again

Good morning all! We are on the road again in San Saba Texas after several days in San Marcos and 2 days in Blanco Texas for visits with our friends Tony and Joyce and Renee and John. Life is good at the moment. All but 2 of my quilts made at retreat are quilted and all but 2 have their bindings completed. The Christmas quilt is layered and ready for me to quilt. The diamond quilt is still waiting to be corrected.

Congress has passed the health bill which states when we turn 75 years of age we will be no longer  be able to have to have medical intervention unless a panel approves the procedures we need. Medicare will no longer pay unless the panel approves and of course insurance is on board with the same decision. For someone like me who hasn't had surgeries, I will just be out of luck   if   my  stuff wears out and needs attention. SO my question is this shouls we as a group of senior citizens continue to support the insurance programs?I have 5 years to enjoy getting assistance if needed. What a great idea for living in a free socirty.

And this is a RANT!

I had blue hair today and it got louder as the day went on. Some little girl on the elevator said her mom was a hairdresser and she could fix my hair, though I would laugh my ass off!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is a grocery , meds and dog supplies shopping day. Planning Steve's birthday gathering  and ordering nibbles and cake are also on the agenda. No sewing it is all packed in the trunk and if I open it things will fly out. Go figure.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sitting here working  my laptop with my tablet next to it and my android phone and they all have the same information, what is wrong with this picture??????????? Just food for thought.

Fueling Up

Took the leap of faith and will be fueling everything that runs this weekend. My caddy yesterday, Steve's little run about truck, big Blue Dodge truck, and topping off Jus Chillin. About $750 dollars in the tanks and then stay home most of the time, sort of silly don't you think. We will be going to Dallas next Saturday for Ron's 80th birthday party  . My trip to Branson at the end of March, Rally in Texas in April and my flight to Sisters Oregon in July, October in Georgia, and December in Texas. Now that is what I call staying home. For us that is a shortened schedule.

Tomorrow is our 47th anniversity, whohoo who know it would last???? Not doing anything special , he and I are going to dinner tonight at our favorite restaurant near by. No gifts we have everything we want or need except a million dollars and I am working on that each week and Steve is working again  for a while.(Part Time 43 hours last week) Who Knew???

I am finished cutting quilts for retreat in fact I am sewing a Christmas one now, packets really cute and simple, that is what I like now sweet and simple, no stress.

Have a great day!

Up and At Um!

Up at 4:45am and walked early, need to fit a lot in my day today. Starting off doing an office job for Big Hank and then cutting more Christmas fabric for ITS A WRAP Quilt.(Christmas Packages). I have an idea for a new Doll Pattern, may design that this afternoon, who knows!

Little Hank came for a visit before he went back to LSU yesterday, I just love that young man to pieces, what a great kid he has been since I first rocked him when he came home from the hospital. He is so smart and will make a great doctor. Hope I am still around to see that graduation.

Steve is off to work, yes he is working at the present time for a friend who is moving his business to a warehouse down the street from us. The extra money is sweet! No I am not buying fabric with it, banking it for fuel for the motorhome. We may want to go somewhere in thye spring.

Love my new Pressure Cooker, did cabbage in 4 minutes yesterday, navy beans in 35 minutes and beef stew in 36 minutes, love the digital electric orange PC. Now we have food for a week! More time to sew.

have a great day

We Pulled Up The Rope

We had to cut the tie rope so we could stay afloat. What a terrible day, wind , rain, lightning, thunder more sideways rain, trees swaying and a tornado warning all day long. Water blew in under the side door as the yard flooded. My doorstop MOOSE got really wet and when I picked him up water ran everywhere. He wsa not happy, so I draped him over the bathtub to drain and this morning he when to thedryer spa. It is cloudy today and a lot cooler and we have a busy day away from the house.

Did I tell you how much I love my digital electric pressure cooker, well if I didn't let me tell you now, I LOVE IT !!!!! I used it to make beef stew yesterday 36 minutes and we were done. The best is I went to amazon to look for a nice cookbook and I had enough points to get a $23 dollar order for $2.80, whoohoo is what I said. It is arriving on the 27th.

Cut some of the Christmas Quilt yesterday will finish it tomorrow. This week I will spend in the cottage gathering up stuff for retreat give aways. The quilt is packages and so cute, comes from a magazine, thats like free almost.

I cooked for Mike for next week, navy beans and brown rice, ham steaks, beef stew with potatoes and carrots. Tomorrow I will do baking potatoes over stuffed and wrapped with a slice of turkey bacon, this is a WW recipe and is the best. I will do enough to send Hank a couple also. Mike supplied the potatoes and we all get to eat.

Hank has started to cook for himself and he doesn't eat the veggies we all eat so I don't cook for him , I just shop with him.

Have a great day and remember to bt greatful for your blessings.

I am Back and Up and Running

Maybe not running but walking for sure, walked at 6am this morning and had breakfast by 7am. Thats what I call a great start! I will be taking Ms. Dixie Doddle in for a spa day, she really smells awful. She had a bad cold last week with fever, cough and sneezing. She also has a rash on her belly, but she was still sweet. I don't think I will ever find another sweet dog like her.

I will be layering my camping quilt today and cutting the Christmas Quilt ,also using my new digital electric pressure cooker for the first time. I am doing navy beans in 20 minutes from dry beans. Talk about saving time. I have a hair and nail appointment at 12:30pm, so I would say I have a busy schedule. Tonight is the mardi gras parade in our area so I don't want to miss that.

Now I am taking the dog in and coming back and cleaning a little, just need the floor vacumned and the toilets cleaned.

Sooooooo have a great day and be thankful for something or someone in your life.

What a Wonderful Day

The weather is crisp and frozen and a great day to quilt and read. So that is what we will be doing, I will quilt and he will read. Nice day would you say or agree. The sun is bright and the wind is blowing and the wood stove is cranked up. The turkey pot pie is make and ready to bake, and the stuff for chocolate chip peanut butter cookies is sitting on the counter.
Think I will have a nap first, then bake cookies.

Dixie is sick, respiratory infection, coughing and sneezing and running fever, she is on several meds which she loves as she takes them with peanut butter. Hope she feels better as the week go on, she is so sweet even when she is sick.

Busy Day

Well just got up from a nap, I love being retired. Got up at 5am and took a quilting lesson on Craftey.com for free, love free stuff. They have a free block of the month demo, nice site, try it. Mike my youngest son built me a 8foot by 28 inch work counter, big Bernina Embroy machine sits on one end and computer area on the other end and a great open work space in the middle. My Elna Pro Quilting Queen is angled in on a 90 degre angle. At one end is a 9 drawer tower with all quilting tools, fabric and patterns workig on at present. Parrelling the elna is the nice cutting table with the ironing area.

Will check in later, Fran just walked in.

GO SAINTS

Well another week flew by, amazing how time flies when you are older. Did I say that? I have walked 5 days this week and am very happy with myself. Feeling wonderful and am sleeping better. Exersise works but it is hard to get in the swing of things, but I am there. Big Hank and I will bump up our distance next Monday.

I pinned  little Lucy's quilt and started machine quilting it this afternoon. Will recycle tomorrow morning and then cut work the rest of the weekend so quilt will wait for some free time.  Our wood stove is not drawing as it should, next warm spell we will take ithe pipe down and realign it. Dixie got new beds today and the old ones will be recycled.

Armond and Tayna will come over for the game tomorrow and I am making chili and hotdogs, king cake and chips and dip. Sounds like a plan.
